Cooking class at Pesantian
The Experience

Cook the way Balinese families do

The focus of the Pesantian Bali Cooking Class is to immerse you in local ingredients and
culture. Your morning starts with a free pickup and a guided visit to the local market with
Chef Santika, our English-speaking chef, who will introduce unusual fruits, spices and the
role the market plays in everyday Balinese life.

Back in the traditional kitchen, you’ll master the stone pestle and mortar, grind spices for
a fiery sambal, and build the all-important Bumbu Bali – before sitting down to the meal
you cooked yourself, with 180° rice terrace views from the Pesantian Warung.

What to Expect

From Market to Table

A hands-on Balinese cooking experience, start to finish.

01

Market Tour & Fresh Ingredients

Our cooking experience begins at the local market. We guide you through the stalls and
buy the fresh ingredients you’ll use in class, giving you real insight into Balinese
food and culture.

02

Discover the Ingredients

Before cooking begins, our Chef introduces each ingredient one by one — its name,
flavour, use, and importance in traditional Balinese cuisine.

03

Cook Everything from Scratch

You prepare each recipe from the very beginning — not from pre-prepared
ingredients. From preparing and seasoning to cooking and plating, you experience the
whole process yourself.

04

A Complete Balinese Meal

The class is carefully structured around the available time. You’ll prepare a full
selection of dishes — appetizer, main course and dessert — for a complete
Balinese cooking experience.

05

Take the Recipes Home

Every participant receives a complete collection of the recipes prepared in class, so you
can recreate your favourite Balinese dishes at home and share them with family and
friends.
